and if you think it is simple, then i beg you to tell me with great certainly which is right:

Johnson claims that the band, Garden Roses, is better than we.
Johnson claims that the band, Garden Roses, is better than us.

and if you chose the latter option, you might want to consider checking your grammar text again.

Though one can technically argue that:
Johnson, a musician for years, claims that the band, Garden Roses, is better than us.
Well, that would still be wrong. However, what is correct is:
Johnson, a band for several years, claims that the band, Garden Roses, is better than us.

In the above correct statement, one might think that it means, Garden Roses is better than the author's band. However, it actually means that Johnson is better than the author's band which makes the information about Garden Roses seem largely irrelevant so unless the preceding or subsequent sentence can do something about it, that last statement is likely to be wrong.
